Total out-of-pocket fee: $5,700.00 under local anaesthetic
Surgery is performed by Dr Jiwan Steven Singh (MED0001533083), registered medical practitioner, specialist gynaecologist.

What is Vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty (also known as perineoplasty, perineal repair or vaginal tightening) is a surgical procedure to repair a permanently enlarged vaginal opening by excising stretched skin and tightening the perineal muscles.
Vaginoplasty is different from labiaplasty, which is trimming of the outer vagina (labia).
Due to the vagina’s complex network of blood vessels, a vaginoplasty is best performed by a specialist gynaecologist who is trained and experienced in the anatomy.
Remember, normal female genitalia vary widely in appearance and often changes over time. There is no evidence that vaginoplasty improves body image or self-confidence.
The gynaecologist will discuss the vaginoplasty procedure in detail with you to help you decide whether it is right for you.
In some cases there can be underlying clinical issues that require a different surgical approach.
Arranging an Appointment for a Vaginoplasty
To start the journey of having a vaginoplasty in Perth, you need to get a referral from your GP to see our gynaecologist .
You will need to come for two appointments with the gynaecologist.
During the first appointment, the gynaecologist will ask you questions and will examine you with a camera and a monitor screen. The gynaecologist will give you some more information and diagrams. The purpose of this appointment is to find out why you are thinking about a vaginoplasty and what you are hoping to achieve. The gynaecologist will also tell you if there are any underlying gynaecological issues or alternative causes for your symptoms.
If you are interested in going ahead, your second appointment is where you sign the paperwork. Feel free to ask lots more questions during this appointment. We want you to be as informed as possible about the procedure before you make your mind up.
Booking the Procedure
We will keep your preferred date available for you after the second appointment, but we won’t officially book the procedure until 7 days after the second appointment. This is a mandatory cooling off period. During the cooling off period, think carefully about whether you want to go ahead with a vaginoplasty.
Lastly, after the cooling off period ends, we will contact you to confirm whether you want to go ahead. If you do, we will book the surgery date and send you the invoice and pre-operative instructions.
On the other hand, if you have decided not to go ahead, just let us know and we will release the surgery date to someone else.
The Procedure
The gynaecologist performs vaginoplasty in Perth with numbing cream and local labial nerve blocks in our dedicated procedure room.
The vaginoplasty procedure will take 1-2 hours.
General anaesthesia is also available, but this option has extra fees.
Recovery
- The numbing effect lasts for up to 4 hours.
- Dissolvable sutures (4-6 weeks) are used.
- Pain relief: analgesics and ice packs made with condoms help to reduce pain and swelling.
- Apply antibiotic cream to the incisions twice per day.
- Take 1 week off work.
- Avoid heavy physical work for 2 weeks.
- No contact sports for 6 weeks.
- No intercourse for 6 weeks.
- Report any bleeding, severe pain or unusual symptoms to the gynaecologist.
- The gynaecologist may give you further recommendations or instructions for your recovery.
Risks
All surgery carries some degree of risk.
Some of the possible complications of vaginoplasty include:
- Surgical risks such as bleeding or infection.
- Scars – severe, raised, reddened and itchy scars are a complication that require treatment.
- Nerve damage or permanent loss of sensation.
- Dyspareunia (painful intercourse).
- Risks of local or general anaesthesia including allergic reaction, which can (although rarely) be fatal.
- Tightening of the vagina (especially if perineoplasty is performed before menopause), requiring use of dilators to prevent the vagina tightening further if sexual intercourse is infrequent.
- Some complications may require further surgery.
This is not a complete list of all possible risks.
Not all patients will experience these complications, but some patients (e.g. due to medical history or lifestyle) may be at an increased risk.
Your gynaecologist will be able to give you more information at your consultation.
Treatment Outcomes
Treatment outcomes may differ based on your individual characteristics. While some patients will experience benefits from the procedure, success cannot be guaranteed. There is no evidence that this procedure improves body image or self-confidence.
It is important to note that there is a variation in the appearance of normal female genitalia, and there can be normal physiological changes over time.
